I’ll Be There For You–This Will Leave You Speechless #WordlessWednesday
Sometimes kids just blow me away with their courage and their kindness. This weekend I went to the IronKids Triathlon in Alpharetta to go meet the 12 yr old inspiration I told you about last week, Winter Vinecki. And while at the race, I saw others with incredible hearts. I saw 1500 children from 6-15 putting their hearts into a triathlon that many of their parents wouldn’t try. I saw some with so much heart that I wanted to freeze the moment in time. And that’s the photo above. One little gal, I believe in the 6-7 year old group, had just one leg, but was proving she could still do anything. You could tell she was struggling on the last of the run portion. Another little girl came out of the crowd to finish the race with her, holding her hand as they crossed the finish line, then patting her on the back as she completed this gigantic challenge. I don’t know if they knew each other. I do know the kindness made my heart swell. To me, they are both the greatest athletes I know…better than the folks competing in the pro’s, better than the record-setters, better than those with Olympic gold. They have hearts of gold, and that leaves me speechless.
(note: a friend’s children were also racing and she put up a post about her perspective on IronKids. Check out her post by clicking here, and see the photo below that I captured of her pride!)

Karen…I even tried to go lighthearted recently…for whatever reason, I’m stuck on the emotional pics these days. Hugs to you! For what it’s worth, I was at the event for a news story and still spent most of the day crying, so proud of these kids.

What a great moment of true athletic spirit. Stacie’s kids were just too cute in their photos. I’m going to encourage my kids to do this next year.

Aww, you made me get teary-eyed with that story! How wonderful! I can’t wait till my daughter is old enough to do this. She completed her first 1 mile walk/trot this summer and had a blast.
