If you’re bored with the same old rectangular playards all the other baby companies have created, Joovy has a new option you might want to consider: the moonRoom.
The moonRoom looks a little space age, to be totally honest, but the concept is as old as time. Your baby or toddler has a safe, confined place to play so that you can take care of whatever else is on your plate at the moment.
It’s a breeze to assemble (and disassemble, too), which is also a treat for those of you who have struggled with playards of the past. I remember all too well how I’d try to snap the sides in place, hoping they’d lock before I pulled my shoulder out of joint. There’s no fight here. You simply pull up on each side until it’s straight and locks into place. Then you push down on the center of the yard, place the mat in and add the sheet that comes with the playard and you are good to go.
But the way the moonRoom is designed, you end up with all kinds of safe space for your little one, ten square feet to be exact. You’ll have a rectangle on bottom, with the shape of a diamond (or a square turned sideways) on top. It’s funky, but in a good way.
My only complaint is the weight. At 27 and a half pounds, it’s still heavier than I’d prefer. I’m told that’s because nearly twice the framing is involved. But you’ll be able to use it for a good while since it holds children from birth to 35 pounds. It’s great for travel or parked at Grandma’s house. It’s offered in several colors, including charcoal (seen in my pictures), black, or purpleness. It markets for about $220, but you can win one for free if you enter our giveaway. See below for details.
(Reader note: As a Joovy mom, I was sent one moonRoom to review. I’ll be using it for a giveaway at a local event for expectant and new parents in Atlanta in the next few months.)
