How to Keep Your Phone Charged All Day on the Beach: Sun Power 6000 Charger
The next time you head to the beach, or anywhere outdoors actually, you’re going to want to throw one of these in your bag: the Sun Power 6000 Charger, a device with a fold-up solar panel designed to charge electronics from Secur Products.
I have several phone/battery charging devices, but with four kids who all have their own phones, my charging sticks always seem to (ahem) walk away, or the charge is gone by the time I get to use it. But I took this Sun Power 6000 Charger to the beach last week and was able to charge quite a few devices on it, all in one day. That’s even after I used it wrong for the first several hours!
Let me explain. This charger uses the sun to keep it charged, even after you use it. I didn’t read the instructions before I threw it into my beach bag (look–I had a lot on my mind–grabbing sunscreen, water bottles, and whatever else the family would need), so I didn’t know I should open the case for the sun to hit the solar charging strips. Oops. So, I had almost run out of ‘juice’ after a few hours on the beach when I saw the notification strip down to just one bar, indicating it was almost dead.
That’s when it was pointed out to me that a solar charger needs the solar strips to be exposed. Doh!
Once I opened the case and sat it out in the sun (I put it on our cooler and even plugged a fan that runs off a USB cord to it), I not only was able to use it to power up the fan, but also was able to recharge the actual charger.
You know how I love efficiency and I have to say, this is now the Mac Daddy of device chargers in my book.
It has a USB input cable for charging it up when you have it inside. That’s built into the design, along with outputs for most phones, including a USB output if you prefer that option.
It’s lightweight. It’s bigger than a phone, but smaller than most books. It’d be great if it could fit in my pocket, but I know I’m asking for a lot here. At about $130 it’s also a little pricey, but it’s awesome in every other way that I could think of.
Dude. It’s even water resistant. Seriously.
Yep. It’s perfect for the beach…or anywhere else you decide to go.
