Paying Tribute at the 911 Memorial
Ground Zero in New York City has become a very special place to remember America’s greatest tragedy and honor those who lost their life on 9/11.
The 911 Memorial is full of symbolism to make certain we never forget the sheer horror of the day and our nation’s will to persevere over the evil we faced. From the waterfall that represents the tears that continue to fall, to the survivor tree that somehow found a way to stand while the buildings around it fell, it’s hard to take a single step without coming face to face with something that holds special significance on the site.
The memorial museum is under construction, and as volunteer Mark Eisen explains in the video below, when finished it will take visitors seven stories down to Ground Zero, on a journey that will walk you through the events of that dismal day.
Listen to what else he had to share about the special significance of the site in this video below.
A few things to note if you visit:
- You must reserve your time slot online in advance
- You go through a security check similar to airport security and are limited on what you can bring with you
- It’s helpful to download the 911 Memorial app in advance. I did this and then sat at the site listening to the stories about the victims, told by loved ones who lost family members on 911.
