Do You Believe in the Magic? Pink Pigs and Christmas Wishes
When I think of the holidays, it’s hard to think of a store that gets more into the season than Macy’s, especially the one at Lenox Mall in Atlanta. You know, they have the parade, the huge tree on top of the store, the special “Believe” campaign, and the famed “Pink Pig” ride.
Maybe you haven’t heard about the last two?
Well, according to Macy’s PR folks, “the Believe campaign is inspired by the New York Sun’s famous ‘Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus’ editorial from 1897. In a recent poll, 56 percent of males and 75 percent of females said that like Virginia O’Hanlon, they too believe in miracles. In honor of the magical and miraculous spirit of the season, Macy’s Believe campaign hopes to inspire Americans to give back to others on National Believe Day and beyond.”
Martine Reardon, Macy’s executive vice president of marketing, explains “Our goal is to inspire others to act in generous and kindhearted ways, whether through writing a letter to Santa to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, or in their own way each day.”
In fact, the stores have paper ready for your children to grab and send a note to Santa…and when they stuff it in the Macy’s mailbox Macy’s will send $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Super simple, right?
And what’s with the Pink Pig? Well, that’s an Atlanta tradition that goes back several decades. The pig travels along train tracks, carrying its riders through a storyland of fun. Just check out the video from the recent trip I took with my husband and youngest child, along with about two dozen friends.

If you live in Atlanta, it’s something you have to do at least once. See hours below. And while you’re at Macy’s visiting the pig, be sure to send a letter to Santa, too. You’ll be helping make a wish come true, proving you still believe.
(Note to readers: Macy’s PR company compensated me for organizing a Pink Pig Party. The opinions expressed here remain my own.)

I had the best time! Thank you so much for all your hard work to help get this together. It was my first time to the Pink Pig and I think I will be adopting it as a new tradition! Thanks again for everything!

WHAT?! Your first time? You should take your mom there and have her ride just to reminisce. 🙂

I did not know about the Pink Pig tradition in ATL. Sounds like such fun. If I were in Atl I would definitely check this out. I’m sure you had an awesome time with your family and 2 dozen friends. Nice! Happy Holidays!

Monica–don’t feel bad–I’ve lived in the Atlanta area for nine years now and only heard about it last year! It’s a fun little treat and neat to hear families talking about their moms riding it as a child.

Desiree, Thanks for supporting the work we do at Macy’s. I love the video and love seeing all our Atlanta blogger friends. So sorry I missed you that day but I was in New York at none other than Macy’s!

We missed you Danica! It was a bit chaotic with all of us on the pig–we took one entire trolley–but so much fun!
