Let’s Pretend This Never Happened –The Book To Get You Laughing
I’m a little late to the party here, but I believe when you find something great (and I promise, the book Let’s Pretend This Never Happened is great), no matter how long other people have known about it, odds are you can find one or two other people who will be thrilled with your discovery.
Well, pouring through the pages of Let’s Pretend is my discovery, much like a trip to the Funny Farm (that’s a comedy club that I used to love in Roswell, GA)…non-stop laughs.
Even as the author, who I know as ‘The Bloggess’ from her Twitter fame, Jenny Lawson, shares details about her pained childhood and anxiety-riddled ordeals through her adult life, you can’t help but love her and her crazy life. Her self-deprecating humor will have your entire body shaking from your full-belly laughs.
You won’t be able to hold it in. People may think you’re a little crazy as you laugh–out loud–as you try to silently read to yourself. It happened to me on an airplane. I was in tears, I kid you not. The guy beside me leaned over, saying he just had to know what book could be sooooo good that it would cause this kind of hysterical reaction. So I read him the section about how she came to wear a nose ring–a clip-on, at that–and had him laughing, too.
And here’s the thing. The Bloggess isn’t out to impress anyone. She is as real as it gets. Painfully real. But also so damn funny.
If you need a laugh, or just to be reminded someone out there probably had it worse as they worked through childhood and beyond, get this book. Like yesterday. Then go ahead and tell me I told you so.
I got to visit with her on her book tour around the country when she stopped in Atlanta. I even got to ask her a couple questions about the book while taping a radio segment about her book and her blog. There’s a picture of that below. If she happens to come through your town, make a point of getting out to meet her.
(Note to readers: I didn’t get anything for writing this review. Absolutely zip, other than the knowledge that if you needed a pick-me-up, maybe I helped make that happen…with a lot of help from The Bloggess.)

LOL, I loved the book and also found myself laughing out loud often. Also, it is never too late to share a good book!
