Still Standing–A Documentary on Marriage, The Atlanta Viewing
I tell people all the time that I’m not good at being married.
The truth is, I had role models who were really great at it and they totally ruined my expectations (not placing blame here, just stating fact).
My mom and dad adored each other and were close to celebrating their 50th anniversary before my father passed away. It was his greatest heartbreak that he wouldn’t make it to that monumental date.
What I realized as I grew older is that most couples aren’t like my parents.
Marriage takes a lot of work. That simply wasn’t evident to me as a child. But it’s the truth.
And it’s the theme of the documentary “Still Standing”, created by Lamar and Ronnie Tyler. They’re the founders of the web site www.BlackandMarriedwithKids.com and they share advice each day about how to keep the love alive.
The documentary involves with “A diverse group of couples who provide transparent, insightful conversation about what it takes to have lasting power in current day marriages. Through infidelity, chronic illness, financial crisis and more these couples explain WHY and more importantly HOW they are STILL STANDING.”
You can see the trailer below and if you’d like to see the full documentary, join them next Thursday, September 13th, at 7pm. This is a link to buy a ticket.
(Reader note: I am not being compensated to share this information. I think it’s a very important topic and hope you agree. I also plan to attend the viewing.)
