Hunger Games: Catching Fire! Movie Review and Prize Pack Giveaway
(Note to readers: I was a guest of the media preview for this movie. I was not otherwise compensated and my opinion remains my own.)
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire! movie is phenomenal…in fact, it is as good as the book…maybe even better.
There. I said it.
I rarely think movies measure up to their book versions, but in this case, I absolutely think it does.
It’s so good, in fact, that at the end of the movie I wasn’t willing to get up from my seat in the theater.
I read the third book already, so I know what happens next, and I wanted to sit there and watch the next movie, too. Of course, it hasn’t been shot yet. Oh, how I wish it was different. I truly don’t want to wait for that final chapter to play out on the big screen.
Lots of people have asked me if you have to have read the book to understand what’s going on in the movie. I don’t think so at all. I do think it would be helpful if you at least watched the first movie before seeing the second, but I don’t think you have to have read any of the books to appreciate how good these movies are.
Some of the scenes will have you jumping out of your seat (trust me, when the monkeys popped out in my face in one scene, the sweet gal who was sitting next to me nearly gave me a heart attack from her scream).
The wardrobe for Katniss is stunning. There’s just no other word for it. I want one of every dress she wore…and I want to look like her in them!
If you haven’t yet, get to the movie. Then join me in the eternal wait for the next one.
Meantime, we have a giveaway for Hunger Games fans out there. I’m giving away one prize pack that includes the following:

Katniss is my fave character because she’s brazen and ballsy and doesn’t need a boy to save her. 😉

Hey there DD 🙂 I was in North Carolina for Bryan’s soccer tournament. Dragged my friends daughter to an IMAX in the next city to go watch it – cried my eyes out…with love to Rue sniff, sniff. I thought the movie was good to the book too the first one left out too many bread references that I wanted to see. I told Bryan I wanted the next one to begin right after the credits, too. Love, Love Loved her wedding dress and Cinna’s Mockingjay spin, but all in all, I’m still team Gale! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🙂 – Jill

I love Katniss because she’s brave and flawed and tries her best in impossible circumstances. But I’m most captured by Rue and her sweet, joyful sincerity. If I could wish books into existence one would be the story of Rue’s short life, and her thoughts and feelings when her name was drawn and she found herself in the hunger games.

I love Katniss because she is so real in an unreal story line – she keeps me in it! Of course, Kelsea, my granddaughter, is head over heels in love with the movie so when I win this prize 🙂 it will go to her at Christmas! She is my Katniss! Thanks for this review, Des!

Of course we love Katniss – even though there are people who are out to kill her and she lives in squalor (through most of the first movie) her hair is always fantastic.

I love Katniss! The reason I do is because she’s inspirational. She is so brave and she really helps me in my everyday life. She gives people (especially me) a feeling that they can accomplish anything. Its so beautiful that no matter how she acts Peeta sees her as something beautiful and he is just the kind of person that looks past what you are going through in life. He looks below what you are going through to what you really are like. Katniss though, she is just so beautiful. Because of her, I bought a bow and arrow and have learned to shoot a bow and i am very good at it now and it is all thanks to her. She is a very skilled bow shooter and a beautiful young girl. I hope to grow up like her when i am older. I really hope i win this contest because the Hunger games are my life and i would be the happiest person on Earth. Thank you for having this contest and giving all of us a chance to win. I really hope you will give a chance to win this great prize and overall Katniss is my top favorite character.

katniss and peeta are my favourite characters! I cant decide between them! I love them so much! I love katniss because her personality is to different. she has flaws but that’s what makes her perfect. katniss inspires me to actually get up and make a difference. she is so strong and she knows what she wants. I wish I could be just like her. I love how she wanted to risk her life to save peetas. I love peetas characters because he stood up for katniss through out the books. I like how he loves her unconditionally and stands by her no matter what. I think peeta is so sweet and cute in his own special way. thank you so much for having this contest! i would love to win this give away!

My favorite character is Katniss because she is smart and brave. Also, right from the beginning I really admired how protective she was of her family, especially her little sister Prim.

My favorite character would have to be johana mason because the way she was portrayed in the movie was so true to in the book. Jenna malone really pulled of that “I dont care attitude” and thats what i was looking foward to.

My favorite character is Katniss, because she’s very brave, and because she is ready to do everything to protect her loved ones. Also, she know like to use a bow and arrow, just like me :).
