Maleficent Movie Thrills Audiences of All Ages
You THINK you know the story of Princess Aurora, or Sleeping Beauty, and the evil witch who cursed her, but Disney’s new Maleficent may change your mind on just how evil she actually is.
The movie shows another side of Maleficent (played by Angelina Jolie), explaining exactly how she came to be so mean, and sharing this age old fairytale from her perspective.
And, in all honesty, she’s simply misunderstood.
We’ve all been there, right, where someone hurts us and we act out in our pain, hurting others?
Well, sometimes, we can reverse that pain we’ve caused, and sometimes we can’t. That’s essentially the issue facing Maleficent in this version of the fairytale turned on its head…or horns, so to speak.
After seeing previews for the movie, I worried about letting my eight year old see it. However, there were only one or two scenes where I considered covering her eyes, and those were battle scenes that most boys would probably love, though few probably have this movie on their viewing list. They should go. And so should you.
The opening scenes are very child-friendly…incredibly different from what you see in the movie previews.
There are fairies that’ll remind you of the Willowing Wisps from BRAVE. There’s a crow that morphs into a human, and back to a crow, or whatever Maleficent decides he should be, who steals the show (and stole my heart). And as I mentioned, the boys are going to love the warrior trees.
There’s a great lesson that adults can appreciate as much as children…that things are not always as they seem, and even though you may get ahead for a bit, you’ll eventurally pay the price for greed and betrayal.
I give it both thumbs up…
Let me know what you think!
