Grandpa’s Buddy–Put It on the Label
Seeing the photo of my brother and his son, now grown, looking at this tiny bundle of brand new life, I can barely believe it’s possible…that my nephew is now a father, and even more incredible—that my brother is a grandpa!
Growing up, he was the crazy brother. The one who saddled up to ride a bull, the one who met my boyfriends at the door, trying to intimidate them with questions about where we were going or what we were doing, daring them to do me wrong. THIS was the nutty brother who got a kick out of hosting ‘the gun show’, in which he’d flex his muscles and then kiss those bulging biceps.
They were almost as big as his heart.
See, he was also the brother who I missed terribly when he joined the military, seemingly disappearing one day, only to be sent way across the country, too far for me to visit. But he surprised me with a trip home one Christmas. That was pretty phenomenal, made even better when he gifted me with a fabulous coin purse he had picked up on one of his Navy trips, this time to Australia.
He had it rough early in life, coming to my family as a foster child in his early teens. He knew what it was like to WANT a mom and dad who cared. So when he had children of his own, he did everything he could to be the best father they could ever imagine.
I have to admit, more than once I remember thinking his wife must be a saint. She took this crazy guy who seemed to embrace rushing through life like the bull that he rode on, and turned him into this teddy bear who beamed with pride as a parent.
And to see him looking at his grandchild now, I can’t help but beam with pride, too.
He is going to be that child’s favorite plaything. I have no doubt.
And I can’t wait to send him these personalized stickers for all of the baby’s things, from his diaper bag to bottles to his teeny tiny shoes. And instead of putting the baby’s name, I just might have to have them printed up to say ‘Grandpa’s Buddy’. They’re part of a new product line from Mabel’s Labels, a company known around the world for its unique, personalized peel and stick labels. They’re UV resistant, waterproof labels and tags, designed for everything the baby needs (and you know that’s a lot). We personally prefer the football theme (my brother was a center on the high school team…his son played, too, and odds are the little guy will be holding a football before he hits one year).
The new baby line is a package of multiple styles and sizes, for a total of $26.95. You can find out more on their site if you click here.
The baby line just launched today. I say that’s pretty great timing since our little guy is just three days old himself.
Grandpa’s buddy.
Pretty crazy, isn’t it?
