Seats to Put You in Action: Dolby Cinema in AMC Prime; Zootopia Review
(Note to readers: Disney PR hired me on behalf of Dolby Cinemas to share this information with you. As always, my opinion remains my own and I wouldn’t send you to a theater or movie I wouldn’t want to see myself. #Zootopia #DolbyCinema #ShareAMC #ad)
It’s one thing to sit in a theater with an amazing picture—laser projection, in fact… and another to have the sound wrap around you as if you’re in the middle of the action…but then, to be in comfortable theater chairs that recline, it’s almost too plush to believe it’s real…but now, add in an extra dimension to the excitement with seats that actually vibrate with the adventure on the screen and you have way more than a movie theater. You have what equates to an amusement park ride that makes you feel like you need to buckle up to brace for the thrills.
THAT, my friends, is what the Dolby Cinema experience is like, and it’s something my daughter and I experienced first hand at the AMC Prime theater in Alpharetta (there are currently 11 theaters around the country featuring this premium level of fabulous). We were invited to watch the new release, Zootopia, at this theater. We were excited about the movie, but honestly had no idea what a treat we were in for with those seats.
Picture this: In the movie, as massive (cartoon) rhinos thud their way into the police station, you can see the ground shake on the big screen, but you can also FEEL it in the chair where you are sitting. Literally, your chair will feel as though it is shaking with the action around you. It will happen again as a predator leaps at your face, and with this new dimension of reality, you jump and scream all at once, because you really think you’re right there with them in the action. You can’t help yourself.
The Zootopia movie gave us a great taste of this technology. You wouldn’t think a ‘kids’ movie would have so much suspense, or action, or messages that I believe every adult needs to be reminded of these days. But I consider this a Disney win on every level. I left the theater kinda’ crushing on the fox character, and I’m pretty sure I’d be cool with my daughter turning out just like the rabbit. I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, so I’m going to leave it at that. But trust me, now, we want more. More of this movie theater technology that makes me feel like I was somehow written into the script.
It’s all possible because of those power reclining seats with what Dolby calls ‘seat transducers’ that vibrate with the action on screen. Want to see if it’s available in your city now? Check the list at this link. If it’s not in your city yet, take heart. AMC intends to expand to 50 operating Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime locations by December 2018 in additional cities, including San Francisco, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Miami, Boston, Denver, and Seattle. They expect to be in 100 Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime locations by December 2024.
The seats are incredibly comfortable, too. And as I mentioned, the sound and picture are also amazing.
But these seat transducers…well, they’re game changers.
I’m not sure my heart could handle this kind of intensity with some scary movies I’ve watched in the past, but I can assure you, I’ll drive past every other movie theater out there to experience movies the AMC Prime way again.
