Fresh Flavors Served Up in the Olde English District of South Carolina
I don’t live far from the OED (Olde English District for those in the know), and I’ve driven at least a dozen times through the north-central region of South Carolina, but I’d never heard the term before. So it makes sense that I didn’t know about the fabulous, fresh flavors the area is so proud to serve up, or the history of the region.
But I know now, and I want to pay more attention the next time I drive through, and maybe even stop for a few days.
The area includes seven counties: Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and York.
Its name comes from the area being the first English settlement in the mid-1770’s.
But what it makes claim to now is fresh culinary, outdoor, and agritourism destinations you may want to see for yourself. They used some of their fresh peach juice in a bourbon cocktail recipe they mixed up for me at a recent media event and I have to say, they had me hooked. I shot a video of the cocktail made after downing my first glass, so I could document a way to make it on my own at home. Or, to know what to ask for when I do stop into the district on my next drive to the coast. You can watch that by clicking here.
Enjoy!
