My Little Drummer Boy–Wordless Wednesday
My son, participating in a Drum Circle here, truly could get by in life with very few words ever. We could nickname him the Wordless Wonder not just on Wednesday, but every day. He has taught me quite a bit I consider worth sharing.
First, actions speak louder than words. Nothing to explain here.
Second, stand up for yourself to mean people. He’ll even stand up for friends who don’t have the courage. I admire that.
Third, say what you mean and mean what you say. The kid takes things literally. He’ll answer the exact question you asked, nothing more, nothing less (others with teens know exactly what I mean).
Finally, be happy. He has little tolerance for drama. None, actually. I love that about him and am learning to drop the people in my life who live for drama. There’s just no energy left in me to be sucked into the life they’ve made miserable. I choose to be happy. He taught me that.

Love the photo, and boy do I ever remember those teen years! My son is now 40 and rarely says extra words. Sound like you have a great boy there.

Aw, thanks. He is a great boy…not perfect by any stretch, but good hearted and full of potential to do so much. I can’t imagine him at 40. I hope we’re still close then.

He sounds like a great kid. I hope I’ll have such nice things to say about my son when he’s a teenager!

Thanks! I have no doubt you will. Quite often I have to remind myself what it was like to be a teen and try to treat him the way I wanted to be treated. That helps a lot.
