How to Succeed in Life Disney Style
Disney does things right. That’s just how it is. So when the people who run Disney put on a conference and offer to share the magical wisdom I’m going to pay attention. And when the Disney hosts bring in experts from other arenas to share THEIR wisdom, I’m going to pay even more attention. I am currently sitting in on a social media conference at Disney and there’s a theme here. That theme is this: FIND YOUR PASSION. That’s right. Once you have your passion you can do anything. Whether it’s designing the most beautiful wedding gown (based on the Disney princesses) or creating an incredible blog, you can do it if it’s something you care deeply about. And you’re willing to work hard at it. What’s your passion? Are you doing anything with it?
These are some of the people who were part of the conference and the wisdom I took away from them.
David Tutera (from My Fair Wedding): Be bold. Be different. If you want to know what’s best in a certain arena, ask the experts in that arena. It’s that simple.
Carley Roney (founder The Knot, The Bump, The Nest): Take care of your audience. Listen to them. Care about them. Grow with them.
Matt Jacobson (Facebook marketing manager): Facebook is another place to share your life and can become so much more (though it was never intended for what it has become). Separate your public page and your personal profile. Create buckets (lists) of your friends and use your privacy policies for each list so that you can manage and control your data.
Rene Syler: Nobody’s going to believe in you as much as you do. You can pick yourself up and reinvent who you are and what you do. And it’s ok to be good enough.
Fran Capo (fastest talking woman): When a door opens, jump inside. If an opportunity presents itself, say yes (really fast).
Chris Brogan (social media guru): Build others up. Be the go-to guy…the person who is always connecting others. Start with you. Make you whole first. How are you going to help the whole world if you are not the whole you?
Georgia Sitt and Susan Egan (musicians/composers): Children will listen. And everything you put on the net can be found, so be careful what you do.
And I take this away. When your passion becomes what you do it shows. Take a look at the video from the wedding (these were actually vow renewals) we sat in on at the Disney Pavilion. Disney hosts amazing weddings and this was a fun way to walk down the aisle.
