The Grinch Steals the Show in ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’
Everybody loves the story about “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, but the musical version playing now at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta tops all the other renditions I’ve seen. I don’t care what else you have planned this weekend. If you can find a way to get to the Fox and see this show, make it happen.
I got to watch opening night and literally wanted to go back the next night. My six-year old daughter said the same thing.
She was dancing in her seat with the Who’s but it was the Grinch who really got her going (and hey Moms, take a look at what he looks like under all that makeup and he’s likely to get you going, too, huh?!). But I digress.
As I was saying, the Grinch is supposed to be bad, but the actor playing the role, Stefan Karl (of Iceland) is as good as it gets. He had command of the audience like no other actor I’ve seen at the Fox and I’ve become quite the regular at the theatre.
The set is pretty amazing, too, especially the backdrop for the Grinch’s dance number where it looks like a wall of shimmering green tinsel is hanging behind him.
The little girl who plays Cindy Lou Who is also impressive, but there’s just no comparison to Karl as the Grinch. He seems to feed off the audience reaction, and the audience feeds off him. It actually just gets better and better right up until the final act.
In the book, they say the perfect description of the mean green guy is “Stink, Stank, Stunk”. In the musical, his performance is anything but.
This is a performance the entire family is going to love!
The Grinch musical is only at the Fox through Sunday, so get tickets if you can. There are FOUR performances on Saturday so I can imagine Karl will be in rare form by the final one that evening. I’d love to sit in the theatre for that show!
(Note to Readers: I was given tickets to attend this show by the PR company working with Broadway Across America, however my opinions remain my own.)
