Filling My Kids’ Love Tanks & Sea Urchins–and How They’re Connected
I have all kinds of resolutions for the New Year…but they really wind down to three things:
1. Filling up my kids’ love tanks.
OK, I know that sounds odd, but it comes from something I read recently about how to love. Yeah, believe it or not, my hubby (and a few past ex-boyfriends) would tell you that I may be a really nice person most of the time, but I’m not always a nice wife/girlfriend/fill in the blank. I am generous to a fault, up to a point, and then I hit a point where I feel like it’s all giving and not taking and then I get resentful, blah, blah, blah. But I digress. The point is, this author says our children are born with an empty tank and it’s our job to fill it with love. I want to make sure my children are sitting on full as long as I’m in their life. I want them to be full of love.
2. Eating better
My favorite food is tootsie rolls. The vanilla ones. I can’t get enough. But that is not what makes up a healthy diet. So, I’m working on squeezing in less sugar and more fruits and vegetables. Trop50 juice beverage is one example of the kind of thing I’ll be trying more of this year. My great-great grandfather owned Indian River Groves. I tell people all the time that I have OJ running through my veins. I love the stuff. Trop 50 offers up a version that contains half the sugar, no artificial sweeteners and half the calories. I’m on the right track, with this resolution, right? And, even Trop 50 is getting behind the resolution kick with its own. You can go to the Trop50 True Resolutions Facebook page and enter your own true resolution, along with a sweepstakes where you could win a $1000 gift card. That could buy a lot of tootsie rolls um, Trop50.
3. Getting organized again
When my best friend met my husband (boyfriend status at that point), she asked him what he loved about me. He told her my “organizational skills”. I so wish I was joking. I’m not. That said, those organizational skills have all but disappeared with 3 more kids and him in the picture. It’s driving me nuts. I need to get organized. I especially need to purge the clutter, and I need to do it now. And it’ll be much easier with pretty stuff like this furniture from Room & Board’s newly-launched 2012 collection. It’s beautiful! Check out the clever, stylish and functional wood storage pieces to help keep organized. The wood products are made in the U.S. by artisans and family-owned companies. The 2012 collection features two new woods, reclaimed chestnut and whiskey oak, as well as two new stains, shell—inspired by a sea urchin that John Gabbert, founder of Room & Board, saw during his recent travels—and charcoal. How cool is that?
What are your resolutions? Please share in the comments below. Maybe we can hold each other accountable.

Love your list! They are exactly what I’m working on right now. I didn’t choose any resolutions though. Instead I decided to have a smaller focus which is making myself a better mom / wife / person this year than I was last. I want to get that to do list down (and not just because I decided not to do something). I’m already working on the organized part and have been lov’n up the kiddos!

Yep, we’re the same person…even down to the once-organized-but-now-gone-awry queen! We have the same off-beat humor, but I have to part ways on “vanilla.” I will always and forever be true to my first love, chocolate.

Andi…you crack me up…I love chocolate for everything including tootsie rolls, but those vanilla ones just rock. Really, really rock. Have you tried them? Everything else vanilla bores me.
