Saving Babies with Sounds of Pertussis Campaign–NASCAR Driver Jeff Gordon
Can you imagine losing a child to a disease that is totally preventable? It happened to the Dube family with their infant son. Little Carter was hospitalized and ultimately died from the Pertussis he caught as a baby. NASCAR Driver Jeff Gordon is joining the Dube family as they work to prevent this from happening to other parents through the Sounds of Pertussis campaign. I interviewed Felicia Dube and Jeff Gordon recently about what they want adults to know about this simple vaccine. It’s something most of us don’t even realize we need, yet it’s incredibly critical. Please listen to their important message and pass it along to others.

Across the United States this year, 8,159 provisional pertussis cases have been reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as of May 5, 2012, representing an 86.6 percent increase compared to the same time period in 2011. That’s a huge increase! You can stop the spread by asking your doctor for the TDAP vaccine. It’s especially important if you’ll be around children.
Meantime, to support this initiative, you can upload a family photo on the Campaign’s Facebook page. By doing this, you are showing your commitment to protecting the babies in your life by getting an adult pertussis vaccine and encouraging other adults to get one too. Once a photo is published, participants can spread the word by sharing their photo with friends and family and inviting others to participate in this important awareness effort. For every photo published, Sanofi Pasteur will donate $1 to March of Dimes (up to $10,000).
