Cherokee County Aquatic Center–Our Own Mini Water Park
The Cherokee County Aquatic Center is just what the doctor ordered for kids who need to get some energy out in a cool environment and for adults who don’t want to make the drive all the way down to Six Flags Whitewater.
It’s located in Cherokee County off Sixes Road (directions are on the site by clicking here).
We spent a few hours there recently and I have some tips for others who want to give it a try.
- Go early if you want a chair. We went at noon and the pool was at capacity, so we had to wait for people to leave before we could get in. Luckily, people were leaving for lunch, so this didn’t take too long.
- Don’t stress if you don’t have a chair. There’s one pool that people swim/walk around the perimeter of and are propelled by the water jets–kind of like a lazy river without the floats. When I went, I sat in the middle section of that pool area. It was cool, relaxing, and perfect for keeping an eye on the kids as they went around and around.
- Bring cash for food. They take plastic at the gate to get in ($6 for adults, $5 for kids, free for 2 and under), but they only take cash at the concession stand. You are not allowed to bring outside food into the pool area.
- During the breaks at the end of each hour, re-apply sunscreen and make bathroom runs.
Have a blast! We stayed for several hours, but I could see spending a day there if the kids can last that long. And keep in mind the new Atlanta Outlet Mall is just one exit away. Bonus, right?!
