Roosevelt Hotel–THE Place to Be Seen in Hollywood, CA
Odds are, if you’ve been to Los Angeles, California, to ‘see the stars’, you’ve likely been down Hollywood Boulevard and probably walked by the famed Roosevelt Hotel.
It was a favorite hangout for the stars decades ago and is still known as THE place to be and be seen, even today.
I was lucky enough to get to stay in this hotel on a recent trip to LA (as a guest of Disney to promote the PLANES movie).
It’s stunning, and, you guessed it, filled with stunning people.
As I checked in, they offered to move me from ‘the tower’ to a room off the pool. I wasn’t sure why the change was happening, and having never been to the hotel before, I didn’t know what choice to make, so I asked the gal checking me in where she’d prefer to stay.
She put me in the room off the pool, with its own private patio, and warned me it might get a bit loud.
I had no idea how loud it would be until I got to the room…smack in the middle of party central (you can hear how loud it was in the video below). I’m not complaining, but I can tell you, if the kids were with me, I’d have requested a move to the tower in a heartbeat.
From my patio, however, I got to be part of the fun from a ‘safe’ distance. Not that it wasn’t safe to be out around the pool…I just would have felt a bit out of my element. Think movie-star bodies. That’s not me. From my patio, though, I was able to enjoy the fun without worrying about how big my butt looked next to the perfect 10 beside me.
People were certainly enjoying themselves…and the folks in the room next to mine continued right up until 3am. That wasn’t ideal because the newly renovated rooms off the pool still had paper thin walls, but hey, it’s Hollywood…who needs to be sleeping, anyway?
I really wanted to explore a little more than I did, especially to some of the rooms they claimed were haunted (Marilyn Monroe had a favorite room here). But I didn’t have a ton of time at the hotel. I did, however, get to have a drink at the famous Tropicana Bar and watch a movie starring Marilyn out by the pool.
Plus, the hotel is just a few steps from the famous El Capitan Theater where the red carpet premieres are held, and right across the street from Grauman’s Chinese Theater. We’re talking right on the Walk of Fame and just a couple blocks from another famous spot in LA–In and Out Burgers (this could explain why I have the big butt and not the perfect 10 body, but they’re so darn good!).
I wasn’t nearly as impressed with the rooms that were in the tower, though some did offer a view of Hollywood Boulevard.
I absolutely preferred my pool-front room. And check out my favorite feature (besides the incredibly comfy bed and huge glass wall with sliding glass doors that overlooked the pool)…the mood lighting. Yep, you could hit work for bright lights, play for ‘mood’ lighting (ahem…hard to do when you’re all alone), and zzz is totally dark. I’m thinking the guys in the room next to mine spent the entire time with lights in the ‘play’ mode.
I’d say if you get the chance to spend a night at Roosevelt Hotel, make it happen, whether you’re able to sleep or not.

This was awesome Des! Loved the video, and I felt like I was there with you. Next time, sneak me in your suitcase. Btw, that was a really strange song for the beautiful people to be playing at the pool.

Yeah! I’d love to sneak you in next time… and they had a DJ at the pool. The music was wild. Certainly not Beach Boys by any stretch. 🙂 Again, a sign that I’m a bit older than most.

Yep, I’ve walked down the boulevard but now it was great to get to see inside the Roosevelt too, amazing! And I think I’d be happy to observe the party from that distance too… 🙂

You just reminded me how I desperately I need a staycation over at the Roosevelt!
