Disney’s PLANES FIRE AND RESCUE Serves Up Heroes with Humor & Heart
(Note to readers: This post is sponsored by Disney and I’m being compensated to share my story about the Everyday Hero in my life. As always, my opinion remains my own. #FireandRescue #PlanesFireandRescueSweeps #ad)
Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
That’s what my mom always said, and it’s a phrase I use often with my own kids, including the youngest, my nine-year old daughter.
She lives it, too, facing each day with fortitude, perseverance, and determination that makes me believe she will be able to accomplish every goal she sets her mind to in life.
For example, she’s a freak for gymnastics. She took a few lessons when she was four, while her older sister went to class. Then, last year she returned to the mats, taking classes once a week, working hard to catch up to many of her friends who were in the gym three times a week or more.
She especially wanted to be able to do a backbend from the standing position, then be able to stand up again.
I know, it’s not the triple flips you see in the Olympics, but this kiddo just couldn’t master it in class. She tried each week, falling often, banging her head more than once, shedding tears a time or two, but never giving up. When classes ended, she was still not quite there.
Then summer came. And even though she didn’t take another class, she didn’t stop trying.
But then, one day, there she was, with the perfect arch, grinning upside down.
Victorious!
And she kept going. Even without a teacher, she was mastering new skills every day. Handstands and walkovers. Cartwheels, too. She couldn’t be stopped. She was doing flips everywhere we went.
And she still is.
She could have given up easily. Especially once classes ended. I think other kids would have moved on to other goals in a heartbeat. But she wanted this. A lot. And she wasn’t afraid to work hard to master it.
This makes her a hero in my eyes. She learned at such a young age what so many adults still don’t get: you can do anything if you want it enough and are willing to do the work to get there.
That’s the same message in the Disney movie PLANES FIRE AND RESCUE. It’s a comedy adventure that features a dynamic crew of elite aircraft devoted to protecting a historic national park from raging wildfire. Here’s the movie trailer to give you a sample of the fun:

Dusty, the world famous air racer, learns he may never race again, so he shifts gears and focuses on aerial firefighting. Dusty can’t do it alone, though, and learns what it takes to be a true hero after joining up with a team of veteran firefighters.
It’s an exciting adventure for the entire family, with an important lesson for all ages, served up with more than a few laughs.
The home movie release is set for Tuesday, November 4, 2014, and you can pick up your copy on Blu-ray and Digital HD that day. You can click here to order it online.
