The Men of Nashville on Life, Love, & Music-and Hear Them Sing
Whether you like the bad boy, the lead singer, or that familiar first love, there’s a guy for every gal on ABC’s TV hit Nashville. And the real men behind each character…well, they’re not so bad, either.
I know this firsthand. It’s not TV magic. They’re adorable in person, too.
The guys were all at a recent event in music city for a presentation at the Country Music Hall of Fame as part of the Country Music Association Songwriter Series, and I was able to meet them and interview them on the ‘red carpet’ before they performed for those lucky enough to have a ticket to the event.
‘Deacon’, played by Charles ‘Chip’ Esten, gave a little insight on the love of his life. ‘Luke Wheeler’, played by Will Chase, told us the back story on his tattoo that now dons Rayna’s name. Sam Palladio, who plays Gunnar, told us which character he’d love to swap roles with and Jonathan Jackson, who plays Avery, shared some tips for anyone who may be interested in songwriting.
My apologies to Chris Carmack (Will Lexington) fans…he was on the red carpet and I interviewed him, but somehow didn’t record. I can tell you he’s a real comedian—he pretty much emceed the evening and had us laughing all night long.
The newest guy to join the crew, Riley Smith, who plays Markus Keen, attended the event, stopping by the red carpet portion briefly (long enough to let me grab a photo with him).
And no, Jeff Fordham, played by Oliver Hudson, didn’t make it. His character met an unfortunate fate in one of the recent episodes.

My biggest takeaway from the time I got to spend with them is that these guys genuinely like each other and would be great pals even if they weren’t on the show together.
They have respect for each other’s songwriting skills (Will Chase, who plays Luke Wheeler, is the only one in the bunch who doesn’t write songs, though he sure can sing them) and seem to truly enjoy performing together, too. You can hear some of those performances by listening to the links below (just click the arrow on each).
