Would You Survive the Walking Dead Experience? You Can Try It Now
It only took about 20 seconds to feel the full terror of The Walking Dead Experience.
…and to realize I would not last a minute in Rick and Daryl’s world.
I learned quickly that you can trust no one…including those fighting with you sometimes.
The Walking Dead Experience is an immersive attraction where you and six or seven other people are dropped into a zombie zone and have to find a way to survive for 30 minutes. You each are given a secret note at the beginning with a tip. One tip. You aren’t told how to use it or when you’ll need it really, but it will matter in your game of survival.
You might lose people along the way. You might have to outwit the zombies coming at you and your small circle of survivors. You WILL get a little carried away with your fear and you might find yourself feeling like you really are in the zombie apocalypse, fighting for survival. Your heart will race when you are cornered. Your survival skills will kick in at least once.
You might be more than a little upset with the outcome if, like me, you don’t end up alive at the end. I’d love to walk you room by room through the adventure, but don’t want to ruin the fun before you get there, so I’ll be as generic as possible with the scenarios.
As I went room to room, I tried to put myself in Daryl and Rick and Carol’s shoes and do as they’ve done during the TV series. For example, you might, like me, be told when it’s all over that you weren’t supposed to take the gun from the weapons room (sure, the bad guy told you to drop it earlier, but, if you’re like me, you might be thinking that gun could come in handy later when facing your next challenge, and you might have stashed it behind your back when he was distracted with another survivor).
That’s how real this game gets.
You’ll learn a thing or two about yourself while working your way through the game.
Like the part where the combination won’t open the lock on the fence. And you’re thinking most of your group can slide under the chain link fence. The heavy-set gal in your group would never make it, but the rest of you will, so it’s worth considering as the zombies start approaching, right? But then you’d be leaving a man behind. Can you do that? Would you do that? So, how else can you make it to your next challenge?
And what about when you’re running through the dark hallway to what you hope is your escape vehicle, but your teammates aren’t running as fast as you? It doesn’t feel fake when you’re in the moment and you aren’t sure if it’s another survivor right behind you or a zombie about to take you down.
They say there’s a 20% survival rate for those going through the experience. In our case, the number was less than that.
If you want to find out firsthand how you’d handle life with The Walking Dead, this experience is a must.
The Walking Dead Experience uses more than 10,000 square feet of sets and state-of-the-art technology with special effects. You’ll go through 30 minutes of adventure, with action starting from the night the zombies began their rampage. Chapter one is the current adventure, but there are plans to add more and expand on the fun.
You can choose whether you want to be a survivor or walker, or if you want to be in the adventure all day long. Ticket prices start at $60 currently, though that price point may change.
It’s all put together by Skybound Entertainment with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and executive producer David Alpert, with Michael Counts, a theatrical designer and stage manager considered a genius in the immersive theater arena.
The production premiered at the Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta in October and will run for four weeks in Atlanta at a facility near Atlantic Station, from November 4-29.
It’s recommended attendees be at least 15 years of age and capable of crouching down and running during certain challenges.

Ummm… no. I would probably pee my pants. I am the BIGGEST WIMP. I can barely watch a scary movie let alone try out an immersion experience. But, I have a few friends that would absolutely LOVE this!!!

I’m a pretty big wimp, too. I did it with my son and maybe that made me want to be braver than normal… I don’t think it would be fun without a friend.
