The Pinnacle Inn–A Place to Stay in Beech Mountain, North Carolina
(Note to readers: We were hosted by the Pinnacle Inn during our visit to Beech Mountain, NC. As always, my opinion remains my own. I would never send you to a place I wouldn’t want to visit again.)
Sitting on our third floor balcony, the snow from the night before was still clinging to the tree top situated beside us, and in the distance, we had a clear view of the night skiers and snowboarders flying down Beech Mountain about a mile away.
We were resting our tired bodies after a hard day of going down that same mountain having our own fun.
We’d just cooked our own hot dinner in the full kitchen behind us, one of the best features of the two bedroom condos at Pinnacle Inn Resort on Beech Mountain.
The resort includes several large buildings in one big complex, with the hub housing a hot tub and heated swimming pool. That hot tub was key to our recovery after the various falls on the mountain earlier.
The buildings were in the middle of a renovation while we visited, with new siding and decking the most obvious improvements.
It’s a complex that was clearly showing its age, but each unit is individually owned, decorated differently to suit the owners’ tastes. Most have been updated with modern bedding, furnishings, floorings, and more. If you go, be sure to see if any unit is available with the view of the slopes, since not every building will.
This is a link to the specific unit where we stayed, and would stay again on future visits. I’d probably suggest some updates to their bedding, but the beds were comfortable and the living space was ideal for our family.
The complex is in an ideal location, with Fred’s General Mercantile (the hub of all things awesome on the mountain where you can buy supplies, snacks and even get a meal—we highly recommend the Beech Bowl at breakfast). Fred created the store many years ago when he saw the need, and is still there most days if you decide you’d like to meet him. He’s quite the character, full of wisdom about the area you’ll be visiting.
You should also try to squeeze in a meal at the Famous Brick Oven Pizzaria. There’s a bar on the front portion of the building, complete with a fireplace, and an arcade attached to the back to keep your little ones happy. In the middle is the heart of the establishment, the restaurant where diners can enjoy some of the best dough they’ll ever have on a pizza. Oh, and the desserts. Be sure to save some room for those because they’re delicious—and Pinterest worthy pretty.
The Pinnacle Inn is also close enough to visit other things around the region, including Grandfather Mountain, where we spent several hours. I highly suggest a visit there, too. And there’s free sledding for children 12 and under at the community hill.
