Ashiatsu– A Different Kind of Foot Massage
Ever had a foot massage?
I don’t mean someone massaging your feet. I mean someone using their feet to massage you.
It’s called the Ashiatsu Massage.
I was treated to one at the JW Marriott/Ritz Carlton Orlando Resorts at The Grande Lakes while visiting the area recently.
It was just after I had completed Disney’s Princess ½ Marathon and it was just what the doctor ordered for my aching legs.
The masseuse uses a special contraption that looks a bit like a medieval device when you first set your eyes on it.
It’s an A-frame of sorts with loops suspended from the top that help them balance as they ‘do their thing’.
It’s not the same sensation as someone walking on your back—there’s not that kind of weight or pressure.
It’s more like someone with a really large hand rubbing through your sore muscles.
I still like the feeling of a massage of smaller parts of my body, like my feet and hands, and that’s not the same with the Ashiatsu Massage, but for the larger areas, it can definitely provide relief.
If this isn’t your thing, there are all kinds of other options at the Ritz Carlton spa. I only wish I’d had more time to stay and unwind after my treatment. Days would have been good!
(Note to Readers: I was hosted by the JW Marriott while I was in Orlando for Disney’s Princess 1/2 Marathon. As always, my opinion remains my own.)
